![]() Nose: Light peat is first off the glass, then light cinnamon, malt, sweet citrus and caramel. If you’re new to whiskey in general, or Japanese whisky in particular, Nikka Days is a fine introduction into this spirit, being fairly mild and thus more palatable to more people. As the bottom tier blended whisky of the Nikka brand (The Nikka, and Super Nikka hold the top spots), the Days iteration is meant to be light, easy going and affordable for everyday use. In recognition of her, Japan has a television series that became quite popular in 2014 called "Massan".Nikka was founded in Japan in 1934 and currently uses two different distilleries to hone their blends. Rita, a woman from Masataka, made a great effort to adapt to the culture of her husband's country. Ten years after finishing the Miyagikyo distillery, Masataka dies at the age of 85. ![]() Nikka grows up, the father of the Japanese whiksy decides to build a second distillery on the island of Honshu. The deep sadness in which he found himself made him focus all his efforts on perfecting the quality of his blended whiskies to achieve this he needed two stills that he brought directly from Scotland. When he was at his best, Masataka was hit hard by the death of his wife. Finally, in 1940, the first Nikka whisky is released. ![]() When the Yoichi distillery is completed, the distillation of whisky begins, and while the wine is maturing in oak barrels, Masataka is producing fruit juices from local apples. On an island in the north of Japan called Hokkaido she finds the ideal location for her distillery, which has similar climatic conditions to Scotland. As Masataka's contract draws to a close, Rita encourages her husband to build his own distillery and fulfil his dream of creating the perfect Japanese whisky. He entered Kotobukiya and there he supervised the construction of the Yamazaki distillery, and when it was ready, the first authentic Japanese whiksy "Shirofuda" was launched. In 1923, a new opportunity arose for Masataka. Shortly after marrying her, they decide to return to Japan so that Masataka can carry out all that he has learned, but he discovers that Settsu Shuzo has had to abandon the project they had for economic reasons. Two years later, Masataka was sent to Scotland by his company to acquire knowledge of how traditional Scotch whisky is made.ĭuring the time he stays there he learns about how whiskies are made in the different distilleries in the country, but, not only does he achieve this, but he also meets Rita and falls madly in love with her. It all began when, after graduating from Osaka Technical High School, he joined the company Settsu Shuzo. This story goes back to 1894, the year in which Masataka Taketsuru was born, a man who years later would be recognised as the "father of Japanese whisky".
